Silent Reading/ Geography Bee. We will continue our every other Monday as Silent AR reading days. This will help to enhanced student's independent reading level in preparation for I-STEP, which will occur in 7 short weeks!
The Geography Bee that was scheduled for Friday is being done today due to unpredicted weather. As a majority of students in the Geography Bee are 8th grade students, periods 1-3 will be watching the Geography Bee in the Cafeteria. Those classes will be responsible for making up their silent reading time on their Reading Logs for the week.
Tuesday Jan. 13- Vocabulary/ Etymology Practice
Students were to have defined the seven words taken from the article that was read in class last week. The article discussed Stuart Scott and his perseverance through his seven year battle with cancer. AS our focus over the next seven weeks is on mastering the test and showing growth, students will be writing letters to themselves that they will not open until their senior year of high school. These letters will include 5 of the 7 vocabulary words and will discuss their goals and ambitions that they have for themselves over the next 4 and a half years of school.
Students will have a choice between three different, researched based, mini projects. These projects are tiered based on their ELA ability as well as test scores. Students need to choose the level of project in which they are the most comfortable and can be the most successful in accomplishing. The overall focus on the project is researched based and driven towards Acuity and I-STEP probable questions. The topic for all three mini projects is "grit" and the mind set of never giving up. BAsed on the project in which the student chooses, they are required to turn it into a presentation (keynote, prezi, powerpoint, google slides, ect.) These presentations will then be presented on Monday, the day in which the projects are due.
