Objectives: Students will define the word 'complex'. In their own words, students will explain what a complex sentence is in contrast to a compound sentence. Standards: Agenda:Define the word 'complex' for Bell Work. This will set up this week's discussion and practice on complex sentences. After Bell Work is complete we will be watching a informational video from American Experience: "Surviving the Dust Bowl". Students will watch and listen personal interviews and narratives about their life during the Dust Bowl of 1931. The video connects to the lives of the characters in the novel, Of Mice and Men that the students are reading about in Reading Class.

Objectives: Students will be identifying IND vs. DEP clauses in complex sentences. Students will be reading an article about the Dust Bowl of the 30's. Students will practice answering PARCC like questions in preparation for spring. Standards: Agenda: Students will be underlining the independent clauses and circling the dependent clause in complex sentences (bell work). Students will read an article from history.com (history channel) over the Dust Bowl to continue our discussion from the film watched earlier this week and tying the time period into their novella which students are reading in Reading class. Once students have finished reading the article, there is a 5 step question they must answer over the reading and film. These questions resemble those that will appear on the spring assessment. Once students have read the article and have answered each part of the question, they may go to http://www.history.com/topics/dust-bowl to watch other videos and interviews of survivors. *REMINDER* WEEKLY WRITE DUE THURSDAY!!!!!
Objectives: Bell Work- students will be able to identify simple, compound and complex sentences. Students will share their descriptive writing for this week. Standards: 8.W.1, 8.W.2, 8.W.3.3, 8.W.6.1, 8.W.6.2, 8.SL.1, 8.SL.2.5, Agenda: Weekly Write DUE!! Everyone will go around the circle reading their "Weekly Write" once everyone has read, students will be trading their write with the person next to them. Students will conduct a peer revision as a form of writer's workshop. This will give the students the experience of being the teacher and knowing what to look for in correct writing.
